EDDIE YEE CV

Eddie Yee is a full-time potter whose love affair with clay has spanned over two decades. He has participated in many group exhibitions, including in Taiwan, with a solo exhibition, Back To Earth, held in Singapore in 2014.

Yee is inspired by the tactile nature of the medium and how it speaks to him, and by what he calls the "imaginary bazaar of sights, sounds, feelings and moods” of his surroundings and people. He enjoys making pots that feel alive and relishes capturing and infusing different aesthetic expressions in his works. These are typically adorned with glazes that enhance and intensify the varying surfaces and textures. The natural and unpredictable effects of the glazes take on a life of their own as each piece is gas-fired, resulting in running and or pooling effects that imbue his works with a characteristic liveliness of spirit and sense of joy and spontaneity.

My works explore the intimate relationship between the natural properties of clay and the diverse characteristics of glazes. Instead of crafting clay as a base material in the finished piece, I prefer to focus on achieving a synergistic balance between the clay and the glaze. In doing so, I hope to present their best qualities when the final work is removed from the kiln.
