Xin xiao chang CV

Xin Xiao Chang is a contemporary artist whose work is informed by a cross-disciplinary background in art, craft, and design. Originally trained in interior architecture and design, she graduated with a First Class in Applied and Decorative Arts (BA Hons) at the University for the Creative Arts(UK) in 2007. During her tenure at Studio Job, an acclaimed Antwerp-based design outfit, she did exhibition work for Milan Design Week 2008 and worked on design collaborations with RoyalTichelaar Makkum (est. 1572), the oldest ceramics manufacturing company in the Netherlands. Inducted into the committee of the Sculpture Society (Singapore) in 2014, Xiao Chang is one of the founding members of Fertile Art Refinery, an art collective and platform founded to extend the reach of women’s voices in Singapore art in 2020, and is a chapter leader of the young women division at Soka Gakkai Singapore. Xiao Chang’s studio practice involves developing the amalgamation of art, design, and craft in her work and is primarily focused on the interplay of different materials. She enjoys experimenting with a variety of mediums when making her sculptures and installations, especially ceramics, the process of which she finds particularly deductive and intuitive. The artist believes that working with our hands keeps us connected to our humanity in an increasingly digitalised world. Often rooted in the local context, her works are characterized by elements of play, humour, and whimsy.

As artists, we can create art by infusing our spirit into the things surrounding us. My work engages with social issues through designs that are cute
and informal.
