STEVEN LOW CV

Steven Low is a full-time ceramicist with three decades of pottery-making experience under his belt. He began on his clay journey picking up the rudiments of pottery from a few acclaimed instructors, before enrolling in and graduating with distinction from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1996, followed by a BFA from Curtin University of Technology in 1999, specializing in Ceramics. Since then, Low has taught ceramics at his local alma mater and conducted numerous workshops and master classes over the years. He is a member of Sculpture Society Singapore and co-organized the 16th International Chawan Expo Singapore in 2014.

A participant in multiple exhibitions and international ceramics festivals from 1995 onwards, Low was a recipient of the 2009 Vermont Studio Center Fellowship (USA), and has served as artist-in-residence at Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle (Singapore), Tanteri Ceramics Studio (Bali) leading up to the 2014 Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale, and the 2nd South East Asia Conference and Residency Programme at FuLe International Ceramic Art Museum in Shaanxi, China, among others. In 2012, he was invited to be a guest artist at the 1st Ceramic Music Festival in Jatiwangi, the centre of ceramic roof tile production in Indonesia.

Inspired by his love for nature and the universe, Low's Planet series seeks to channel the energy of the cosmos, to spur the imagination to contemplate the inner depths and beauty of the universe.

My works are unabashed in stating their intent, underlining the need to appreciate the importance of life and cherish living with all the beauty and wonders of the universe here on Earth, the only place we call home.
