RAFAEL LANFRANCO CV

Rafael Lanfranco is an artist, illustrator, and Peruvian sculptor. He holds a Master's degree in Communication from Boston University and a Fulbright scholarship from the US Department of State. Lanfranco has a strong interest in mythology, anthropology, technology, and popular culture. His works were inspired by his research into pre-Colombian pottery, pottery-making techniques, and their unique shapes.

WAKOs were created by redefining his memories of old Peruvian toys and characters with pre-Colombian Andean pottery. The unique shapes of the handles and spouts of these potteries were incorporated into the heads and ‘antennae’ of the WAKOs. The imaginative, colourful, and light-hearted characters of WAKOs were born, each with its unique personality and background. Lanfranco infuses layers of knowledge and history into the design.

At first glance, they look simple, funny, and colourful, but with great interpretations of the various aspects of Peruvian history: craftsmanship, humour and play.
