ZHENG YUKUI/SONG XIAOLING CV

Zheng Yu Kui and Song Xiao Ling received their formal training from Shandong Academy of Light Industry & Fine Arts and furthered their studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. After graduation, they collaborated with the Sculpture Institute of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) to establish a pottery studio in Beijing.

A recipient of many awards including the prize in ’90 Shandong Pottery and Porcelain Contest for ‘Panlong Xi Jiu’ (Nine Unusual Dragon Pot), Zheng’s sculptures proclaim his individual flair in creating in the age-old medium of pottery.  Together with his ceramist wife, Song, they create sculptures that are full of life, humour and enthusiasm. Their subjects are often women and children, seen in traditional garb, engaged in leisure activities, invariably depicted in joyous moods.

Each individual piece is unique and remarkable; and stands out for its beauty and grace. Every piece of work is sculptured by infusing humour and yet maintaining originality. Zheng’s oeuvre has most definitely won the admiration of critics and commentators with its wit, artistic sensibility and nuanced compositions.
