YURI TAKEMURA 竹村友里 CV

Takemura studied at Aichi University of the Arts (Ceramics Course, Department of Design and Craft) and Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo. She uses spiral patterns and curved lines to express plants, living creatures, natural landscapes and memories of life so that they can be appreciated visually and by hand. Takemura likens her artistic process to that of playing music: the curves and undulations present in her vessels are her own personal soundtrack, enabling the viewer to share in the ‘notes' that she ‘plays’. The beautiful lines and subtle gradations of colour in natural landscapes, plants and creatures are her inspiration. Most of her works are not sketched to details, but rather she cherish the flash of inspiration she gets while touching the soil. Her work is sought after for visual appreciation, but she believes that there is much to be discovered by using it. She wants the viewer to enjoy the contrast between tea bowl and the bright green tea in it, the temperature transmitted to the palm of your hands that changes with the thickness of the clay, and the surprise when you look at the foot of the bowl.
