Where Fire Meets Earth: An Ember’s Serenade

02 February – 23 March 2024

An ember, a fading remnant of a once vibrant flame, carries with it the essence of enduring warmth. In the dance between creation and transience, the ember becomes a profound metaphor for the artist's journey. Whether through the delicate strokes of a painter's brush or the fiery transformation in a ceramic kiln, the ember's essence permeates the artistic process — a reminder that, in every stroke, every firing, and every creation, there lies a delicate balance between permanence and the fleeting beauty of the ephemeral ember.

In Where Fire Meets Earth: An Ember Serenade, this unprecedented exhibition is a rarity in itself, as it marks the inaugural appearance of Bizen firing, highlighting the artistic prowess of Japan's esteemed National Living Treasure (Ningen Kokuhō), Jun Isezaki. Complementing this showcase is Koichiro Isezaki, bringing a contemporary perspective to Bizen, marking both their debut in Singapore.

The serenade continues with the tactile richness and cultural tapestry of Iskandar Jalil’s creations, the organic and nature-inspired ceramics crafted by Hiroko Mita, and the distinctive spiral patterns adorning Kazuya Ishida's Bizen creations,

The exhibition unfolds a poetic narrative, skillfully weaving together the varied forms of artists' expression within their unique mediums and practices. The result is a harmonious exploration that reveals the intricate dance of painting, ceramics, and firing techniques, unveiling the aftermath of the ember's mesmerizing ballet.
