Prints Through Time

Prints Through Time is an exhibition showcasing the oeuvres of Singapore-based Korean printmaker, Shin-Young Park’s artistic journey from 2004 until the present day. The works at this exhibition explore the complex issues of minority identity, racial conflicts, consumerism, and sustainability that continue to plague us today. Prints Through Time was held at Mulan Gallery from 4 April to 2 May 2023.
Park experienced various degrees of racial discrimination due to her ethnicity when she moved to Auckland at 16 years old with her family. Having faced prejudice and prejudgement as an adolescent caused her to be hyper-vigilant and sensitive to social issues happening around her. Featuring prints and mixed media pieces, Prints Through Time presents a thought-provoking visual commentary on contemporary multicultural society. The showcase challenges viewers to consider their position concerning these issues and to reflect on the wider social and cultural context in Singapore. The works are bold, evocative, and stimulating, and offer a unique perspective on the issues that are shaping modern Singapore. The exhibition is timely, as we continue to grapple with issues of social inequality, intolerance, and climate change.
Park’s works offer a dynamic visual representation of these complex issues, inviting viewers to engage in self-reflection and meaningful conversations, and how we can build a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
