Kaz Orii’s paintings took root from Cubism 10 years ago when he first began his career as an artist. Since then his creations have grown and matured to soulful originality as he gradually discards representational imagery while continuing to subversively encompass contemporary concerns in many layers.

Kaz’s art is a good example of how inherently western oil paintings can change and progress in a unique way to suit the climate of Japan. A major influence in Orii’s works is his interaction with nature and seasons in Japan through ongoing farm experiences. This interaction of agriculture and abstract art may seem at odds at first but it allows him to experience the change of the seasons in a more profound way. All of this accumulated impressions and Kaz’s creativity merges on the canvas with a distinct warmth. Even within the thick layering typical of oil paintings, the Japanese sensibility is reflected.

Kaz Orii’s abstract expressions portray the likeness of satellite-photo images of Urban Cities superimposed with tranquil shades from a palette inspired by Japan’s very own nature reserves and its seasonal harmony of colours. He taps inspirations from his experiences and his vivid love for nature. Kaz’s abstract artworks are easily appreciated by everyone due to the aura emanated by these colours and structure.
